Don’t snooze on student loans

June is the sweet spot to start planning how you’ll cover what FAFSA doesn’t.

You’ve got time to compare options, talk it over with a co-signer, and find a private loan that actually fits your life.

Think beyond tuition—the right student loan can cover housing, meal plans, and even your laptop.

View Money’s best student loans list to find a lender, apply in as little as 3 minutes, and start the semester on the right foot.

💾 Smarter Spending Habits That Actually Stick

We’re not here to guilt you out of your morning coffee or tell you to live like a monk.

This is about spending better, not just less.

Smarter spending habits help you keep more money without feeling like you’re missing out.

It’s not about cutting everything—it’s about cutting what doesn’t add value.

Here are some low-effort, real-life habits that make saving feel natural—not like punishment.

1. 💳 The “Cash-Only Weekend” Rule

Spend physical cash for a full weekend—no cards allowed.

Digital payments make money feel invisible. Try this:

  • Withdraw ÂŁ40–£60 on Friday. (wayyyy more if you're going out Saturday lol.)

  • Use only that cash until Sunday night.

You’ll literally see your money disappearing.

If you try and do a night out cash only it’ll scare you how much you spend on drink.

When you’re tapping your card it’s not real.

It gives some food for thought.

💡 Why it works: It adds friction and mindfulness to your spending.

Plus, you’ll quickly learn what you truly value on weekends

2. đŸ’· “Round It Up & Save It”

I cannot promote this one enough, it is the handiest personal finance tip I can ever give.

Apps like Plum even invest that spare change into the stock market, like the s&P500 fund, etc.

They are genuinely unbelievable and I would recommend them to anyone.

Use apps like Monzo, Revolut, or Plum to round up every transaction and stash the spare change.

Spent ÂŁ3.60 on coffee?
£0.40 goes to savings—automatically.

🧠 It’s painless and adds up fast.

3. đŸ“± â€œDelete the Default”

Remove your saved card info from Amazon, Uber Eats, ASOS, etc.

I read this in a personal finance book and it helped a lot, especially on Amazon.

If you have to type your card details every time you buy something online, that extra layer of friction will help you make better-informed decisions.

That one tiny friction point (having to type your card details) kills a ton of impulse buys.

🛑 Less convenience = more control.

All these tips were curated from personal finance books I read during lockdown when the world was shut down.

If you implement any of these habits and they make a difference, let me know.

Thanks for reading!
