🧠The 3-Good-Things Habit That Actually Works
Firstly, thank you so much for being here.
I genuinely appreciate every single person who opens and reads these emails.
Within all the content creation I’m doing at the moment, the newsletter is still my baby.
In a world of 6-second videos and doomscrolling, it takes a particular type of person to open and read an email.
So again, thank you.
Anyways, enough of that soppy s$%t, let’s get into it.
I have written about gratitude before, and it remains massively important to me.
So I'm going to give the easiest way to practice gratitude.
You don’t need a journal.
You don’t need 20 minutes of self-reflection.
You don’t even need to feel super grateful.
All you need is your phone and one quiet moment in bed.
Open your Notes app and write down 3 good things that happened today.
That’s it.
This could be anything, literally anything.
The wins don’t have to be life-changing.
They just have to be real.
Your brain takes care of the rest.
Now for the nerdy stuff.
🔬 Why This Works (Backed by Neuroscience)
Here’s what’s happening when you do this consistently:
Gratitude activates the brain’s reward system — the same areas involved in pleasure and motivation, including the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and nucleus accumbens.
→ Gratitude literally stimulates dopamine release — Zahn et al., 2009 (Nature Neuroscience)
It improves sleep and emotional regulation.
In a 2005 study, people who wrote down three good things before bed slept longer and reported better sleep quality.Pretty cool.
I appreciate that people may not be as interested in science as a nerd like myself is, but it’s data-driven evidence that supports the claims I am making.
It is also the only reason I have built these habits myself, and why I am spreading the word.
From personal experience, gratitude is one of the best feelings you can experience.
And I am so far from a woke journaling hippie.
Low effort, high impact.
What we all want.
