This Week’s Thoughts. 💭

Payday is here, best day of the month.

I believe I have a healthy relationship with money, mainly thanks to the book “The Psychology of Money” by Morgan Housel.

This isn’t an ad or plug, it’s a genuinely life-changing book.

Do yourself (and future self) a favour and read it.

I’ve developed my saving and investing muscle, and also got quite decent at using those credit builder credit cards.

All thanks to that unbelievable book.

Money is such a taboo subject, which I believe is due to the majority of people having zero education regarding it, ESPECIALLY people around my age.

Fancy seeing how exactly I save and invest my money on payday

Anyways, be sensible. Get yourself something nice, a takeaway, whatever.

But pay yourself first, and forget about it.

📈 2 Payday Habits That Actually Make a Difference

Hey — it’s payday.

So needed, I am skint.

That little boost in your bank balance feels great... until a few days later when half of it’s mysteriously gone and you’re wondering what even happened.

So here’s something I started doing that’s helped me hold onto my money a bit better — without needing a full-on budget spreadsheet.

Just two simple habits.

No stress, no finance jargon.

💸 1. Move money the second you get paid

Every time I get paid, I shift a bit of money out of my main account straight away. Doesn’t matter if it’s £10, £20, or more — the habit is what counts.

I recommend opening a trading 212 account for a cash and stocks & shares ISA. I use these and they are great.

The point is: if it hits my account, some of it moves before I start spending.

An even better way is getting an automation app like Plum, so the money goes into savings before you even see it.

Think of it as paying a tax to your future self.

🛍️ 2. Plan one thing you’re allowed to enjoy

Let’s be real: you’re going to spend some of your money.

That’s fine.

You work hard all month, you deserve something nice.

But instead of letting it slip away on random late-night food orders or pointless impulse buys, pick one thing in advance that you want to spend on and enjoy it.

For me this month I bought a load of new hiking gear, even though I’ve been on three hikes in my life.

Don’t care. I’m obsessed atm.

Anyways, you have to have something to look forward to, or literally, what is the point?

Could be a decent meal out, new trainers, a night out, whatever — just make it intentional.

Not reactive.

That’s all she wrote.

Two moves.

Both take under five minutes, and they’ve made a real difference in how I feel about money.

I’m not perfect with it, but I don’t feel like I’m flying blind anymore — and that’s a win in itself.

(As I said, click the poll above if you want a detailed deep dive into exactly where and what I put my money in.

It’s allowed me to save nearly 10k over the last few years. 👆️ 📈 )
