🪴 What I Am Learning About Discipline

For years, I thought I just needed to “find motivation.”

The right podcast, the perfect quote, or that spark to do press-ups at 3 am.

But here’s the truth I’ve been learning: motivation is like Wi-Fi in a coffee shop — unreliable, and most of the time, just doesn’t work.

Motivation is a Mood, Not a Strategy

Motivation comes and goes, and it’s definitely not reliable.

When it’s here, it’s amazing, and you should run with it.

But most of the time it’s not.

Motivation is like that one mate who always cancels on going out.

It’s great when they’re there, but you’d be foolish to rely on them.

Discipline = boring but dependable

Discipline, on the other hand, is like brushing your teeth.

You don’t debate it, you don’t need a playlist, you just… do it.

Honestly, I used to roll my eyes at the word “discipline” (sounds very hardcore), but what I’m learning is it’s actually way simpler.

📋 What I’m Trying Right Now:

For example, over the past few weeks, I have been trying to force 15 minutes on the treadmill after a workout, even though I hate it.

Every single day, I dread it, but I force myself to fo it.

And every time, I’m happy I’ve done it.

💡 What I’ve Learned So Far:

As a instintively lazy person, if I only act when I have motivation, I’ll get nothing done.

Discipline feels a little unsexy compared to “finding motivation,” but honestly?

It’s the one that actually works.

If you hold yourself to a higher standard, your “discipline” habits start to feel like self-care.

Which makes things like eating healthy and going to the gym much easier.
